[Covenant] Con Scenarios

Andrew Kenrick's picture

As I posted elsewhere I'm running a 3-4 hour game of Covenant at Conception this weekend. Now, my plan so far is to create a cell and 4 PCs upfront, to have a vague idea of where the game will go and to then throw them in with a mission and see where it ends up.

Now, do you think this will work? Or should I plan a bit more ahead, perhaps with some firm scenes in mind, at least to start with?

Here's my thinking from

Here's my thinking from pondering a two hour session for Conpulsion.

I'd recommend starting in the middle. Rather than "here's a mission". Create a few scenes set just after a mission goes utterly wrong, with lots of blame potential. Split the group into a couple of factions with initial conflicts of interest prepped and let it spiral from there.

I'd also go with the law of conservation of NPCs and maybe only have two antagonists outside the player group. Mix everybody up in the crucibles.

I'd also go with creating a cell sheet, but leaving a few gaps for players to fill in, that way they get some ownership without tying up time in full on prep.

Right, so start in media

Right, so start in media res! Good thinking, I'll factor that in.

How much player control would you give for scene framing and so on?

There are two options. - If

There are two options.

- If you're sure of the group, explain the situation ("you just did a removal in Bolivia, it all went wrong") and then let them choose their starting scenes as normal.

or

- Provide really kickass starting scenes ("your best friend betrayed the cell and now you have him cornered in a back alley") and then set the ball rolling from there as normal.

Oh,

for a Con game it's also worth highlighting how powerful moments of truth are, and reminding people that if their character dies they can still resolve truisms and use the perks thereof. This enourages folks to go all in and not worry about it.
