[3:16] Ongoing Sales

Following up from my initial sales thread...

OneBookShelf had a problem with their database in August and so they've lost track of the pre-GenCon sales. They've written to customers and publishers about this, but it does mean that I'm waiting to find out how many PDFs they are going to pay me for during August. I'm certain I had 20+ sales by the 11th of August, when I last checked before heading to GenCon. We'll see what the numbers come out at. Since the system was reset it's been doing well on OBS, though.

GenCon was 114 sold and 18 comps handed out (mainly to the Ennies and so on).
IPR numbers seem large too, since we're now well into the second 200 run of books (about 130 left).
The initial 200 print run has gone, except for 8 copies in transit from GenCon back to the IPR warehouse in Nevada.

I guess I'll know the concrete numbers at the end of Q3 (covering July, August and September).

August Update

Gregor Hutton's picture

At the end of July the numbers were...

Total To Date: 98
89 PDFs + 4 as part of bundles
1 Book + 4 as part of bundles

At the end of August the numbers were...

Total To Date: 474
184 PDFs + 43 as part of bundles
204 Books + 43 as part of bundles

I expect numbers to be much, much lower for September than they were for August. I've also given 20+ books away as comps too, but I've not included them in the numbers.

August was pretty staggering.

ZOMG!

Its like a living, breathing testiment to the power of WoM and Actual Play. If I achieve 10% of those sales to people who don't know me, not only will D&H be a massive financial success, but my wildest dreams will have been achieved.

I say again. ZOMG!

Yeah

Actual Play Sells Games.

Also, release a month or so pre-GenCon helps so people are jazzed at just the right time to play more and talk about it.

Yes, there must be a date in June or July that is optimum to release a book. Maybe DexCon or something? But it really helps for there to be some awareness of the book before GenCon.

As for AP. I totally agree with Matt. What helps 3:16 (I think) is that it's easy to get started. Kind of like In A Wicked Age or Zombie Cinema.

Now, not every game should be low-prep, but it certainly helps people play it quickly and find out if it's any good. I think games that require front loading (Hot War is an excellent example of setting up the situation tailored to your group) will be getting their own AP in the next few months. As Malc says, that will generate AP and a bounce in the interest/sales curve
