Has anyone else noticed this message about an upcoming price increase, with different formats ending up at significantly different costs?

I haven't crunched any numbers yet - just wondered whether anyone else has had any thoughts yet. Of course a lot of you have moved away from Lulu anyway... On a first glance it looked to me like there'd be a real question about the viability of Letter format, which is a bit unfortunate for Questers and Legends Walk, but 6x9 becomes more attractive - and so, weirdly, does A4.
Following the FAQ link at the bottom lets you see the US prices as well, where Letter is much cheaper (like, less than half the price if my quick calculations are correct). Once the changes are in place I'll have to fiddle around with delivery destinations for a dummy order and see if it picks up the difference.
Noodling a bit more - if you have a reasonably large book in Letter format, on the UK printing prices you might as well do it in hardcover. At 256 pages the cost is about the same, just over £11. On the US prices that'd cost $24, so not much different.
There isn't any mention of the Spanish printer, so I don't know what's happened there.
For anyone who cares, there's a Lulu forum thread at
http://www.lulu.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=100420
which is currently 12 pages long, and contains a fair few unhappy bunnies.
It also contains a link to a handy Lulu price calculator someone has made, where you can put in details of different projects and *gasp* see the calculated price. The second line of radio buttons lets you choose between old and new pricing.

I have seen this and by my calculations, I'm more than happy with the alterations to Crown Quatro size! I may even consider restructuring my pricing a little, especially for the US market when it hits IPR etc.

It's the same price for Play Unsafe

Give or take a tiny bit.
Having said that, the message about the prices changing was enough to send me over to Create Space to check out their prices. I suggest you do the same: they're competitive and the proof they sent me looked fine.

Interesting. Looks like they'd be even cheaper than Fidlar Doubleday, though that's not taking postage into account. It'd involve mucking around with US tax registration though.
Anyone else with feedback on Create Space?

Checked price for Jaws

Presumably the new Lulu prices are on now, and I'm finding that a) it's lower than previously thought and b) at the 50 copies mark it's essentially the same price as Fidlar Doubleday.
(It's also different from Lulu's own online price calculator, but we expect that.)
Which would mean there's no point going to the trouble of setting things up with Fidlar - unless I want to order 100, 200, etc, in which case the quantity discounts do differ a lot. But I was planning on sending 50 to IPR in the first instance, being cautious about demand and cash flow. (Though I notice there is also a bulk printing service on Lulu offering better prices for 250+, but you have to fill in a form to get a quote.)

The production cost of HiG has dropped by a good £1.25!
Which makes it more cost effective if I want to provide copies to shops :)

Okay, dumb LULU Newbie question here, when they state the minimum number of pages for a particular binding type are they talking actual sheets or facing pages?
I'm assuming actual sheets

"Pages" never refers to physical sheets of paper unless someone specifically says it does.
Certainly in this case it means a side of a piece of paper.
