[Have-a-go-heroes] Turning my attention to this now

Now that BoL is out there, I'm turning my attention to a game I've been rather keen on since I wrote it as a 24-hour rpg. You can see the original, and a slightly updated version here
http://www.geocities.com/have_a_go_heroes2004/

I did playtest it several times last year, when I was preparing to rewrite it at that time. However, I've lost my notes from the playtests, so I'm just gonna start writing and see what happens as I go. I will keep you posted as things develop and will ask questions/seek feedback as I go.

One thing I need to do, is keep the focus on the comedy side - I find many comedy rpgs do not live up to their billing and the comedy seems forced. This is something I might need your collective thoughts on as I go. Initial thoughts or experiences of writing or playing comedic rpgs would be cool though.

Thanks

Comedy rpgs are a tricky

Comedy rpgs are a tricky topic, probably because they're so very hard to do right. You tend to get comedy rpgs that are funny to read, and comedy rpgs that are funny to play. The former are much more common.

I wrote parts of the Red Dwarf rpg, which is a very funny read - but there's not much there (besides the absurdity/scenario generator) that encourages the funny in play.

I can't really think of any that fit the latter, except maybe something like Buffy that encourages quick, snappy dialogue, but it's not really comedy.

So, which one do you want to be? And if the latter, how are you going to encourage comedy in play?

Oh, and for those of us who haven't read the 24 hour version, would you care to give us a summary about what the game is about?
