The Independent Insurgency, episode 20: Hot War & other things

Malcolm Craig's picture

The excellent Robert Bohl, one of my fellow Play Collectivists from Gen Con and all round good guy, hosts rather good gaming podcast entitled The Independent Insurgency. He talks face to face with small press authors on a variety of subjects. At Gen Con Indy 2008, Rob and I sat down to have a chat about Hot War and related matters. You can listen to our sparking wit live over the internet:

It's right here.

There's a lot that's of interest, including the inspirations behind Hot War, music, Robs game Misspent Youth and even chitchat about a few other games.

As always, both Rob and I appreciate feedback.

It's true. Non-stop filth.

Plus Covenant and 3:16 get a bit of a mention.

Hopefully this garners a bit more positive publicity for Hot War. I'll be tracking sales to see if there is any increase over the norm in the coming weeks.

Interview

I stumbled upon this interview yesterday from Roberth Bohl's posting in Stuff to Watch: January 2009 thread over at story games. Which, by the way, is a great way to hear about various random things going on related to rpgs: http://www.story-games.com/forums/?CategoryID=6

Great interview (dirty jokes and all) which made me laugh and smile. Interesting to hear about some of the influences and thinking behind Hot War. Truly enjoyed reading it and it hit my post apocalypse nerve, so I hope it sells great and you make more stuff like that. A wonderful book, _even_ better than Cold City in my opinion.

Also thanks for mentioning the Fidlar Doubleday printers, I might have to check them out when the time comes.

You even renewed my determination to get a copy of 3:16, which unless I can find a uk retailer (shipping from IPR is half the price again of the book...) will have to wait until the next convention where it is on sale in the uk (hint hint Gregor Hutton).

I think we'll have copies at sale at Conception in a couple of weeks, or Continuum in March, if you're at either of those conventions Claus!

Conception

Thanks for heads-up Andrew. Just checked out their homepage and lots of info on Conception for me to digest, less so on Continuum. Could be interesting to spend a long weekend down by the sea, if I can convince the misses of that in February after the recent spell of frosty weather.

I've only been to this last Dragonmeet here in the uk... what's it like compared to that?

As for 3:16 some kind poster on rpg.net directed me to www.leisuregames.com (which I had embarrassingly forgotten about). Oddly they have two listings of it, one under "3:16 - Carnage Among The Stars (BoxNinja)" and one under "Indie Press Games Selection". The latter which is apparently a best seller!

Sorry to have derailed the thread - can we take any further 3:16 ordering talk to another thread. I'll start a Conception thread up too.
