The Last Stand of the Gallant 22nd

Neil Gow's picture

System: Duty & Honour
Players: 4-5
French Body Count: High.

Captain Lonsdale and the other members of 3rd Co. 22nd Lothian stumble upon an encampment of battered and injured redcoats. The 53rd were set upon by a column of French cavalry and were all but slaughtered. Some escaped with their colours and an equally valuable cargo - Lady Haversham, the wife of the Commanding Officer of the 22nd, come to visit upon her husband, and her beautiful daughter Anna.

Now, 3rd Co. must escort their injured comrades and their august guests through the Spanish hills and back to the British lines before the French Cavalry comes again. A battered fortress lies on the horizon - could that be the key to their salvation?

Duty & Honour is a game of adventure and romance in Wellington's Army during the Peninsular War. Don't worry about not knowing your Salamanca from your Vittoria. If you have seen an episode of Sharpe you know everything you need to know to play!

Victory Girls

Scott Dorward's picture

Sorry, Gregor -- I only just noticed that you wanted blurbs! I hope this isn't too late.

It's late 1963, almost a year since the cold war turned hot. The bombs have destroyed much of the civilised world, and the eldritch horrors of the British and Soviet twisted technology weapons programmes are loose. London is the one of the last cities left, and is bursting with refugees from across Europe.

The British government is hanging on by a thread. The sudden and unexplained death of the Secretary of State for War, John Profumo, is only making matters worse, as is the rumour that his death was decidedly unnatural. The Special Situations Group are being shut out by Special Branch, and the loyalties of their own agents are, at best, conflicted. In this atmosphere of betrayal and mistrust, can they root out the killer before the rest of the government starts falling?

Sex scandals, state secrets and otherworldly horrors, for four players. Adults only.

Uh oh

I've just noticed that my Hot War game has been advertised as being for ages 12+. This means that I really need to offer something other than Victory Girls, or risk arrest.

With that in mind, I'll fall back on running The New Covenant again. The pitch is:

London. Winter. 1963. It is a year since the Cold War went hot. This was not just a nuclear war: far more sinister, darker weapons were deployed from the shadows. Survival and re-building are all that matter now. But human nature and tragic circumstances mean that everyone has their own ambitions: a government desperate to hold on to what remains of the country; military forces who wish to expand their power and influence; frightened and brutalised refugees who simply want a place to call home. Into this maelstrom steps the Special Situations Group, a motley band of men and women tasked with the jobs too dirty or dangerous for anyone else.

A charismatic preacher has started attracting attention at Speakers' Corner. He offers a chance to reach out to the many loved ones lost in the war and speak to them again. His followers are growing, and they would die for him. Is he everything that he seems, and, if so, what does that mean for a London in which everyone has lost so much?

For four players.

(Mob Justice) - Brothers in Arms

Iain McAllister's picture

It is a hot summer night in Chicago. Your father is a boss in the Irish gangs and each of you is respected in his own way by the community. Tonight you celebrate his birthday in his favourite speakeasy, in the safest part of town for a man of his stature.

As the meal concludes, your father fetches the car, he hates being driven like a snob.

Time passes. He has been gone too long. The owner beckons you outside, begging for forgiveness. Your father is dead. Shot and left to rot in a back alley with the rats and garbage. In the distance police sirens blare, getting closer with every second.

It's time to get to work!

A Mob Justice scenario for 2 - 4 players. This scenario is available as part of the Collective Endevaour Journal.
