The site is going to be locked for a bit while I tinker behind the scenes and switch the new site on.
The new forums will require re-signing up, in an effort to purge the database of spam accounts.

OK,
one of the things that was mentioned at the big meeting was how it would be useful to see what people can help with.
Fortunately this is really easy to implement. If you go to your profile page / my account information (in right hand navigation), click Additional Info and you'll see a new box called "I can help with". In that box on each new line, write down things you can help others with, be it art, editing, game design, or whatever.

In this post David talks about having an off-topic or tangency forum.
That whirring sound was me blinking rapidly at the screen.
I was kind of hoping that David would have started this new thread rather than saying "Maybe a separate discussion tone and whether we should have any non-gaming threads, or a non-gaming forum?" in another thread. Anyway, here it is.

OK folks,
in my spare, spare time I've been testing a software update on my test rig. I've run a test import of the database on the live server, and all seems fine. Expect the site to be offline late on Sunday as I run the final update. This update'll fix a few oddments like multipage threads , personal contact forms and email notifications.

Just so folks know, the recent tendency for the site to fall over randomly is the result of our increased popularity (yay!), which was causing the database to run out of memory (boo!).
I've made a few tweaks to solve this:
- If you're not logged in you get a cached copy of pages, that may be up to half and hour old. This means we take less of a hit from non-logged in folks.
- I tweaked the database settings to be more memory efficient and paid for a slight memory upgrade.
This should stop things randomly shutting down.

I've made a few amendments to the forum settings, largely due to layout issues. Comments should now display unindented in posting order, much like all the other RPG Fora.
